Published work on GHK-Cu concentrates largely on cell culture systems rather than whole organisms. Frequently used endpoints include collagen synthesis, expression of matrix metalloproteinases, and migration of fibroblasts. Some reports describe antioxidant behavior, while others stress delivery of copper into cells. These mechanisms are proposed rather than demonstrated, and the relative weight of each pathway is unclear. Human trials are few and generally small, so laboratory findings should not be read as confirmed clinical results.
GHK-Cu is a coordination complex formed between the tripeptide glycyl-L-histidyl-L-lysine and a copper(II) ion. The peptide backbone consists of glycine, histidine, and lysine joined in that order. Copper is held through the imidazole nitrogen of histidine and the alpha-amino group at the N-terminus, which together produce a square-planar arrangement around the metal center. The solid appears blue to violet, a color that originates from d-d electronic transitions within the copper coordination sphere. The complex is indexed under CAS number 89030-95-5.
The sequence now called GHK was first reported in the early 1970s after isolation from human plasma, where it was noted to influence liver cell behavior in laboratory preparations. Later work described a copper-binding form and its activity in fibroblast and wound-model experiments. Review articles frequently group the substance with other copper peptides. Concentrations in blood appear to fall with age in several small surveys, although the reason for this trend is not settled. Whether such a decline carries functional consequences remains an open question.
Identity and purity are usually assessed with reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography, often paired with mass spectrometry. Copper content is measured separately by techniques such as inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry or atomic absorption. Amino acid analysis confirms the peptide sequence after hydrolysis. Because the metal and the peptide can be quantified independently, a complete certificate of analysis normally reports both values rather than a single purity figure. This separation of measurements is important when comparing suppliers.
Solid GHK-Cu appears as a blue to blue-violet powder, and the colour is a direct consequence of copper coordination. The complex dissolves readily in water and in many polar solvents, while the free peptide behaves differently. Solubility in nonpolar media is low, which limits its use in oil-based systems. Solutions are typically prepared fresh because the dissolved form is more exposed to hydrolysis and to loss of the metal ion than the dry powder. Working concentrations are usually low, and preparation notes often specify the solvent and the order of addition.

Mechanistic accounts focus on how the complex delivers copper and how the released peptide interacts with the extracellular matrix. Copper is an essential cofactor for lysyl oxidase and other enzymes involved in collagen and elastin cross-linking, and GHK is one of several peptides able to carry the metal. Reported effects include altered gene expression in fibroblasts and changes in matrix metalloproteinase activity, although many of these findings come from cell culture rather than whole organisms. The relative contribution of the peptide backbone, the copper ion, and downstream copper metabolism is not fully resolved.
GHK-Cu is a coordination complex formed between the tripeptide glycyl-L-histidyl-lysine and a copper(II) ion. The peptide sequence is conventionally written as Gly-His-Lys, abbreviated GHK. Copper binds through the imidazole nitrogen of histidine, the alpha-amino group, and a deprotonated amide nitrogen, producing a square-planar geometry. The complex carries a net positive charge near physiological pH and is intensely blue in aqueous solution. The metal-free peptide is often written simply as GHK, while the copper-bound form is written GHK-Cu.
The compound was first isolated from human plasma by the biochemist Loren Pickart in 1973. Early work identified it as a factor that altered the behavior of cultured liver cells, and later studies linked it to connective tissue and wound-related processes. Reported plasma concentrations fall markedly between roughly age twenty and age sixty, a pattern that generated interest in copper peptide biology. Whether that decline has functional consequences remains an open question, because differences observed across age groups do not by themselves establish causation. Research interest later expanded into cosmetic and tissue-culture settings.
Handling practices for the solid material emphasise low temperature and dryness. The lyophilised or powdered form is typically kept at refrigerator or freezer temperatures together with a desiccant. Working solutions are often prepared fresh, because repeated freeze-thaw cycles and extended storage may alter the complex. Glass or inert plastic containers are preferred over materials that could leach metal ions into the preparation. Such practices follow general peptide conventions rather than substance-specific regulations.
Analytical verification commonly relies on high-performance liquid chromatography for purity assessment and mass spectrometry for identity confirmation. Spectroscopic methods such as UV-visible absorption and electron paramagnetic resonance can probe the metal centre itself, since the d9 configuration of copper(II) produces characteristic signals. Elemental analysis or plasma-based techniques quantify copper content. Because each method reports a different aspect of the same sample, purity figures are most meaningful when the technique and its detection wavelength are stated alongside the value.
Stability of the complex in solution depends on pH, temperature, and the presence of competing ligands. It is generally described as more resistant to breakdown than the metal-free chain, since coordination reduces susceptibility to enzymatic attack. Oxidation and hydrolysis can nevertheless proceed over time in aqueous media. Storage guidance in laboratory settings commonly involves refrigeration, protection from light, and avoidance of strongly alkaline conditions. Published data on long-term behaviour vary considerably and depend on the specific matrix.
==== Absorption ==== With oral administration of a single dose, THC is almost completely absorbed by the gastrointestinal tract. However, due to first-pass metabolism in the liver and the high lipid solubility of THC, only about 5 to 20% reaches circulation. Following oral administration, concentrations of THC and its major active metabolite 11-hydroxy-THC (11-OH-THC) peak after 0.5 to 4 hours, with median time to peak of 1.0 to 2.5 hours at different doses. In some cases, peak levels may not occur for as long as 6 hours. Concentrations of THC and 11-hydroxy-THC in the circulation are approximately equal with oral administration. There is a slight increase in dose proportionality in terms of peak and area-under-the-curve levels of THC with increasing oral doses over a range of 2.5 to 10 mg. A high-fat meal delays time to peak concentrations of oral THC by 4 hours on average and increases area-under-the-curve exposure by 2.9-fold, but peak concentrations are not significantly altered. A high-fat meal additionally increases absorption of THC via the lymphatic system and allows it to bypass first-pass metabolism. Consequently, a high-fat meal increases levels of 11-hydroxy-THC by only 25% and most of the increase in bioavailability is due to increased levels of THC. The bioavailability of THC when smoking or inhaling is approximately 25%, with a range of 2% to 56% (although most commonly between 10–35%).
Important modern products are EPO (Binocrit and NeoRecormon), Enbrel (etanercerpt), Remicade (infliximab), MabThera/Rituxin (rituximab), and Herceptin (trastuzumab). PEGylation is a big step forward regarding administration of peptide and protein drugs. This method offers the two-fold advantage of substituting injection by oral administration and reducing the dosage, and therefore the cost, of the treatment. The pioneer company in this field is Prolong Pharmaceuticals which has developed a PEGylated erythropoietin (PEG-EPO). Oligonucleotides are a third category of big molecules. They are oligomers of nucleotides, which in turn are composed of a five-carbon sugar (either ribose or desoxyribose), a nitrogenous base (either a pyrimidine or a purine) and 1–3 phosphate groups. The best known representative of a nucleotide is the coenzyme ATP (Adenosine triphosphate), MW 507.2. Oligonucleotides are chemically synthesized from protected phosphoramidites of natural or chemically modified nucleosides. The oligonucleotide chain assembly proceeds in the direction from 3'- to 5'-terminus by following a procedure referred to as a "synthetic cycle". Completion of a single synthetic cycle results in the addition of one nucleotide residue to the growing chain. The maximum length of synthetic oligonucleotides hardly exceeds 200 nucleotide components.
== Mechanism == Myelofibrosis is a clonal neoplastic disorder of hematopoiesis, the formation of blood cellular components. It is one of the myeloproliferative disorders, diseases of the bone marrow in which excess cells are produced at some stage. Production of cytokines such as fibroblast growth factor by the abnormal hematopoietic cell clone (particularly by megakaryocytes) leads to replacement of the hematopoietic tissue of the bone marrow by connective tissue via collagen fibrosis. The decrease in hematopoietic tissue impairs the patient's ability to generate new blood cells, resulting in progressive pancytopenia, a shortage of all blood cell types. However, the proliferation of fibroblasts and deposition of collagen is a secondary phenomenon, and the fibroblasts themselves are not part of the abnormal cell clone. In primary myelofibrosis, progressive scarring, or fibrosis, of the bone marrow occurs, for the reasons outlined above. The result is extramedullary hematopoiesis, i.e. blood cell formation occurring in sites other than the bone marrow, as the hemopoietic cells are forced to migrate to other areas, particularly the liver and spleen. This causes an enlargement of these organs. In the liver, the abnormal size is called hepatomegaly. Enlargement of the spleen is called splenomegaly, which also contributes to causing pancytopenia, particularly thrombocytopenia and anemia. Another complication of extramedullary hematopoiesis is poikilocytosis, or the presence of abnormally shaped red blood cells.
=== Other abnormalities === Aortic dissection has been described very rarely in patients with early-onset disease. Leiomyomas, tumours of smooth muscle affecting the oesophagus and female genital tract, may occur in a rare overlap syndrome involving the adjacent COL4A5 and COL4A6 genes.
== Personal life == While a model, Larter moved to Los Angeles to pursue acting. In 2002, she moved to New York City for three years. In an interview with Phillymag, she gave reason for the move: I took some time off to define myself outside the pressures of the industry. Part of me really needed to know if this is what I wanted to do with the rest of my life. In January 2005, she went back to living in Los Angeles for a role in Heroes. In December 2007, Larter and her longtime boyfriend, Hayes MacArthur were engaged. They had met on the set of National Lampoon's Homo Erectus. In a 2007 interview with Cosmopolitan, Larter said: "I told my boyfriend after three weeks that I wanted to marry him and that we could do it tomorrow." On August 1, 2009, Larter and MacArthur married at MacArthur's parents' estate in Kennebunkport, Maine. Among the wedding guests was Larter's close friend and fellow actress Amy Smart. Larter and MacArthur purchased a three-story home in the Hollywood Hills for $2.9 million in 2012. During the COVID-19 pandemic, they moved to Sun Valley, Idaho. == Medical uses == In the United States, dapagliflozin/saxagliptin/metformin is indicated as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes. In the European Union it is indicated in adults aged 18 years and older with type 2 diabetes:
== Natural occurrence == Phenethylamine is produced by a wide range of species throughout the plant and animal kingdoms, including humans; it is also produced by certain fungi and bacteria (genera: Lactobacillus, Clostridium, Pseudomonas and the family Enterobacteriaceae) and acts as a potent antimicrobial against certain pathogenic strains of Escherichia coli (e.g., the O157:H7 strain) at sufficient concentrations.
Some dinoflagellates that lost their photosynthetic ability later regained it through new endosymbiotic events with different algae. While able to perform photosynthesis, many of these eukaryotic groups are mixotrophs and practice heterotrophy to various degrees.
Actually, the platelets and leukocyte cytokines play important parts in role of this biomaterial, but the fibrin matrix supporting them is the most helpful in constituting the determining elements responsible for real therapeutic potential of PRF. Cytokines are immediately used and destroyed in a healing wound. The harmony between cytokines and their supporting fibrin matrix has much more importance than any other platelet derivatives.

Insulin-like growth factor-binding protein 3, also known as IGFBP-3, is a protein that in humans is encoded by the IGFBP3 gene. IGFBP-3 is one of six IGF binding proteins (IGFBP-1 to IGFBP-6) that have highly conserved structures and bind the insulin-like growth factors IGF-1 and IGF-2 with high affinity. IGFBP-7, sometimes included in this family, shares neither the conserved structural features nor the high IGF affinity. Instead, IGFBP-7 binds IGF1R, which blocks IGF-1 and IGF-2 binding, resulting in apoptosis.
== Characterization == Designing effective antimicrobial surfaces demands an in-depth understanding of the initial microbe-surface adhesion mechanisms. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) is used for nonliving samples. Bacterial colony forming unit (CFU) counting requires overnight incubation and detects bacteria that readily grow on solid media. Molecular dynamics (MD) simulation can be used to minimize the number of experiments with engineered substrates, with the quantification of time-lapse fluorescence microscopy images that can be processed in an hour. Contact angle measurements can be used to characterize micro/nano-pillars use for rupturing cell walls. The analysis of the zeta potential by the streaming potential method of either an antimicrobial coating or a self-disinfectant material in contact with an aqueous environment, or by electrophoretic light scattering of nanoparticle dispersions of antibacterial additives reveal information about surface and interfacial charge and let predict the electrostatic attraction or repulsion of microorganisms.
=== Environment === Boosting natural resource efficiency is the "single most important need for a sustainable food future," according to the World Resource Institute. As mentioned in the on-farm efficiency section, precision farming, including variable rate nutrient application, variable rate irrigation, machine guidance, and variable rate planting/seeding, could minimize use of agricultural inputs for a given yield. This could mitigate resource waste and negative environmental externalities, like greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, soil erosion, and fertilizer runoff. For example, Katalin et al. 2014 estimate that switching to precision weed management could save up to 30,000 tons of pesticide in the EU-25 countries. González-Dugo et al. 2013 found that precision irrigation of a citrus orchard could reduce water use by 25 percent while maintaining a constant yield. Basso et al. 2012 demonstrated that variable-rate application of fertilizer can reduce nitrogen application and leaching without affecting yield and net return. However, precision agriculture could also accelerate farms' depletion of natural resources because of a rebound effect; increasing input efficiency does not necessarily lead to resource conservation.
Hepatic lobules are the functional units of the liver. Each lobule is made up of millions of hepatocytes, which are the basic metabolic cells. The lobules are held together by a fine, dense, irregular, fibroelastic connective tissue layer extending from the fibrous capsule covering the entire liver known as Glisson's capsule after British doctor Francis Glisson. This tissue extends into the structure of the liver by accompanying the blood vessels, ducts, and nerves at the hepatic hilum. The whole surface of the liver, except for the bare area, is covered in a serous coat derived from the peritoneum, and this firmly adheres to the inner Glisson's capsule.

It is the copper complex of the tripeptide glycyl-L-histidyl-lysine. The metal ion is held by the histidine imidazole group and the peptide N-terminus. Most research on it concerns skin and wound models.
The tripeptide was first isolated from human plasma and has also been reported in saliva and urine. Plasma levels appear to decline with age in some small studies. Those observations rest on limited sample sizes.
It is not authorized as a systemic medicine in most countries. Cosmetic preparations list it as an ingredient rather than an active pharmaceutical substance. Legal status therefore differs by jurisdiction.
The colour comes from electronic transitions in the coordinated copper(II) ion. Ligand field effects absorb part of the visible spectrum. A colourless or greenish sample may indicate degraded material.
